A short glance at 3.3.0

inv_offhand_stratholme_a_02Interrupting the radio silence for a short update on what 3.3.0 brings for us. There’s not too much there so far, but MMO-Champion released some set bonuses and the armor set looks for a few of the Tier 10. Ours are…interesting.

  • 2 Pieces (Damage): (Updated) The critical strike chance of your Shadow Word: Pain, Devouring Plague, and Vampiric Touch spells is increased by 5%.
  • 4 Pieces (Damage): (Updated) Reduces the channel duration and period of your Mind Flay spell by 0.5 seconds.
  • So what does this mean for us? Well, we’re going to get a hell of a lot more damage out of our main DoTs, because their chance to crit has been increased. And, as each crit is 100% additional damage, this is quite a bit. I have been stacking up on crit for quite a while myself and am currently at about 30-40% raidbuffed. Now, assuming Tier 10 hasn’t got the +Hit fetish our T9 had, that we may like to have 2pT8 and 2pT9.

    The 4-piece bonus makes life easier on us; by shortening MF by 0.5 seconds, we need less Haste to get 2 Mind Flays in between Mind Blasts, and that was all we were really using Haste for anyway.

    Another change: Mind Flay will be 30 yards base range. Goodbye MF Glyph in PvE! It will now suddenly be an awesome long-range nuke in PvP, since it will outstrip almost anything (except Hunters I guess).

    Edit: As posted by Molgan, this blue post shows the ideas for Haste and Shadowpriests in 3.3. Mind however, that this is only a test. But if it improves our scaling, it can’t be bad in any way.

    1. Have you heard about the new priest glyphs in the pipe for 3.3? The intent is to cause haste to apply to dots. They’ll tick faster and end faster.

    2. You will still be using the Mind Flay glyph :)

      • Well, not in PvE if it still only increases the range; the new ideas for a glyph to allow Haste to affect our DoTs would replace it in seconds. Face it, while in PvE MF at range may be useful, in PvE it rarely is. We needed MF to be at the same level as our other spells, we did not need it to outrange everything.

        There’s a good chance that the glyph itself will be redundant and removed, or replaced with another in its place.

        • I think they intend to rename the your-Mind-Flay-does-extra-dmg-when-your-target-has-SWP glyph to Glyph of Mind Flay.

          So yeah, Beniffer is right in that technically you’ll still have it equipped!

          • Which would really not be all that bad, to be honest. It might be a bit confusing to just rename glyphs to match other glyphs. Either way, as long as we get a benefit out of it, we should get a kicker out of it!

    3. Unhasted Mind Flay is 3 seconds to channel. This would give you the same damage in 2.5 seconds.

      I think it would be interesting to look at reaching the 2nd sweet spot where Haste Rating allows you to comfortably fit 3x Mind Flay in the 5.5 second Mind Blast cooldown window.

      • There won’t be a third sweetspot, at around 900-1k haste rating we’ll be dropping mind blast from rotation. It’s not all that hard to get, I’m in mostly 245 gear and over 600 haste already, I imagine by the time I have 4p 261 ilvl T10 I’ll be very close to that.
